Let's go hit!
When you are on defense, your main objective is to get three outs without the opposing team scoring so your team can go hit and possible score runs. So the main thing that you and your team must do is make all the plays possible. There will be times when a batter gets a good hit and you cannot make the play, things like this will happen. Because these things will happen, every fielder must know where they are going when they get the ball. My dad always tells me to think I AM going to get the ball and I AM going to make the play. If every player thinks that the ball is coming to them and they know what they are going to do when it does then they are going to be a very successful defending team.
Same with base running offensively, all players must know the situation, the outs, etc.. If there is a runner at first and the batter hits a grounder to the shortstop, the second baseman should be covering second and the shortstop could easily flip it to the second baseman. Then, he/she can turn and throw to first and create a double play easily. Teams should also have certain play for certain scenarios. For example, my team have four different plays for when first and third are occupied by runners. |
