How do you pitch?
When kids are younger, EVERYONE wants to be a pitcher and everyone will say they are a pitcher when their coaches ask. But when you get older you only find a few good pitchers that can compete at your teams level. For baseball, throwing overhand is something they have been doing their whole life and they really do not have to make a big change from regularly throwing to pitching. On the other hand, for softball, the player must make the transition from overhand to underhand.
Pitching is not easy to learn. A new pitcher must learn how to pitch, yes, but they also have to learn situations, different pitches, they need to be able to know how to work every kind of batter, and most importantly they have to learn to keep their cool and continue doing their job; to throw strikes. This is especially difficult when they are having an off day, when the opposing team is getting good hits off of them, and when the pitcher's pitches are not working that day. It is very easy to get frustrated and once pitcher's get to a certain point they may lose control and not be able to recover but being able to recover it what makes a good pitcher. |
