Contrasting
Hitting a softball pitch is proven to be more difficult than hitting a baseball pitch. A fast pitch player's swing must be more level than a baseball swing. A baseball batter drops his hand when he hits a baseball. Also, men have much more upper body strength than women and a baseball swing is all arms. With a softball swing, a woman's core is where all her power comes from
Bunting, slapping, and dragging are called small ball. They are used because in some cases they are very difficult to defend, they are sometimes used to advance the runner, or sometimes they are even used to trick the opposing team. These methods are usually used with fast runner that can get to first before the other team can defend the ball.

Bunting: When a girl is bunting they must position themselves all the way up in the batters box so they catch the ball out in front of the base. If the batter does what she is supposed to then the ball should drop and not roll too far from where it is dropped. There are many different forms of bunting such as bunting for a hit, sacrifice bunting, and fake bunting. When a girl bunts for a hit they are usually trying to become safe so that it counts as a hit. They could do this with or without a girl on base. Sacrifice bunting is when you are sacrificing the out to advance the runner on base. There is also what they call a squeeze play where the player on third base takes a huge lead off the base and as soon as the hitter puts the bunt down, the runner sprints to home to score a run. The opposing team is usually so confused that the runner scores and the hitter is safe but if the other team knows how to defend this both girls need to do their job in order for this to work. That means the hitter MUST get the bunt down and the runner MUST get a big lead and break for home as soon as the ball hits the bat. The last form of bunting is fake bunting used when a runner is on base. With this form of bunt the batter must move all the way back in the box opposite of regular bunting. The batter must do that so she pushes back the catcher so when the runner steals the catcher is delayed and has to make a longer throw. Baseball players can also bunt but it is very rare because of the base length.
Slapping: While slapping the batter will show bunt when the pitcher starts her windup. When the pitcher gets ready to release the ball the batter must pull back and hit the ball. The purpose of this is to have to corners(first and third) charge to home plate to receive the bunt and the batter hits either over their heads or past them. Slapping is not as common as bunting or dragging and usually not as effective. Dragging: This tactic is usually used with fast runners, to get them on base so that they can get into scoring position. It is also used to advance runners but is mostly used with fast runners. While dragging, the batter is positioned in the left batter’s box whether they hit left handed or right. The batter can either drag or drag bunt. For either strategy, the batter must start in the back of the batter's box and when the pitcher starts her windup the batter will start stepping toward her, while staying in the batter's box, and either break her wrist and pop the ball somewhere or drop the bat into a bunt position and bunt the ball. The batter starts moving while in the batter's box to giver her more momentum and a head start to get to first safely and to also put her in scoring position. |
